Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. 2010. Preliminary Study

In Collaboration  with Maria Arquero de Alarcón.
Architecture: Estudio A0, Quito, Ecuador.

The site for a cultural centre in memory of the writer Chinghiz Aitmatov is located in Kirgizstan’s capital, Bishkek.

The works of the author contain detailed and atmospheric descriptions of Kirgizstan’s landscapes, from the steppes to the rocky mountains. The project is inspired by these descriptions. A walk through this “garden” would suggest a subtle link to these well-known landscape descriptions by the author.

The project interprets the landscape situation of the first two belts of Kirgizstan vegetation, classified by altitude; the third level, the alpine und subalpine prairies above 3000m, finds its place in the building’s roofs.

The other two belts are topographically and atmospheric differentiated in the project:
The first and lower level is located at 1500m, and is historically dominated by steppe composed of high grasses, marshes and long reed extensions along rivers.

The second level corresponds to the landscape situated between 1500 and 1300m, and is mainly mountainous and covered in brush.
